What are best-practice options for /etc/sysconfig/rsyslog?

Issue

  • What options should be in /etc/sysconfig/rsyslog in RHEL 5? What about RHEL 6?

  • We see a warning like the following when rsyslog starts:

    Dec  7 16:23:26 z511 rsyslogd: WARNING: rsyslogd is running in compatibility mode. Automatically generated config directives may interfer with your rsyslog.conf settings. We suggest upgrading your config and adding -c3 as the first rsyslogd option.
