Issue

I have a host where, when I issue the command "service iptables restart" or "service iptables stop" the kernel panics fatally immediately after the display of the text "Unloading Modules"
After the most recent kernel update we started experiencing fatal panics on boot. This allowed me to get managerial approval to remove the modules. When I removed the modules the server booted and the iptables symptom went away as well.
