Hash # character cannot be used in "database password" or "server.satellite.http_proxy_password" on RHN Satellite 5.5 and bellow

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • RHN Satellite cannot handle # characters in the password field of the database DSN. For example in /etc/rhn/rhn.conf a password like 'myReal#secure' is not handled correctly, as defined :
default_db = rhnsat/myReal\#secure@rhnsat
  • Note that as a result of an incorrect password being used by various RHN Satellite services that attempt to connect to the database instance, the rhnsat user may also be locked in the Oracle database instance.

Environment

  • RHN Satellite 5.5 and bellow
