NFS hangs on certain subfolders - Red Hat Customer Portal

Issue

On some servers such as srv01 any command hangs when I try to access a certain subfolder of an nfs4 mount.
It does work for other folders.
In the messages log we see

Jan 28 09:03:03 srv01 kernel: nfs: server nfs.example.com OK
Jan 28 09:03:21 srv01 kernel: nfs: server nfs.example.com not responding, still trying

It works perfectly fine on srv02 which is setup exactly the same.
The only difference is that srv01 has openvmware tools while srv02 which is working fine uses the default vmware tools provided by vmware.
