Fail to boot a system updated from RHEL7.x to RHEL7.2 when LABEL including "/" is specified to the root partition

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Specified LABEL including "/" to the root partition in /etc/fstab, and then the system
failed to boot after update from RHEL7.x to RHEL7.2. LABEL was automatically used
to "root" kernel parameter in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg instead of UUID.

Here is an example of specifying "root" kernel parameter.

    linux16 /vmlinuz-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 root=LABEL=/_test

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2
  • systemd-219-19.el7
