How to join Active Directory domain with realmd when the NETBIOS name is different from the FQDN?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

realmd does not seem to provide an option to specify a NETBIOS name that is different from the FQDN DNS hostname when joining an Active Directory domain.

It seems that net ads join and adcli join commands provide this functionality. However, it is desired to standardize on the newer realmd technology.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7
  • realmd
