Why can't the installer find my kickstart file when it's located on an USB drive on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?

Issue

  • When I put my kickstart file (ks.cfg) on a USB disk and try to kickstart my machine the installer can't find my kickstart file.
  • Anaconda is not able to find kickstart file on a USB disk.
  • If the kickstart file is on a USB device (be it a USB external drive or a USB DVD/CD drive), anaconda stalls and prompts the user with a message as follows :

    Message: Unable to download the kickstart file. Please modify the kickstart parameter below or press Cancel to proceed as an interactive installation
