Does RHEL 5 suffer from the "dd ls treadmilling" issue?
Issue
- Does RHEL 5 suffer from the "dd ls treadmilling" issue?
-
EMC describe an issue as follows:
- Certain versions of the Linux kernel prohibit clients from performing ls and other statistic-based queries. This issue is fixed in Linux kernel 2.6.29.6, and is a known issue in Linux kernels 2.6.18 - 2.6.26.
- This issue, sometimes called "dd/ls treadmilling," forces the Linux system to wait until all write processes to a network share are completed before allowing directory attributes to be accessed on the network mount. While the write processes are in progress, attempts to perform statistic-based queries (such as "ls") against those files and directories fail.
- This issue appears to have been addressed in Linux kernel 2.6.29.6, in March 2009.
