Getting following error repeatedly in /var/log/messages:

Nov 8 03:13:20 server1 postfix/smtpd[20410]: sql_select option missing
Nov 8 03:13:20 server1 postfix/smtpd[20410]: auxpropfunc error no mechanism available
Nov 8 03:20:16 server1 postfix/smtpd[20451]: auxpropfunc error invalid parameter supplied

Remove the packages cyrus-sasl-sql and cyrus-sasl-ldap if MySQL and LDAP is not used and configured with SMTP.

Root Cause

The Cyrus SASL library libsasl tries to initialize all plugins. The auxprop plugin sql and plugin ldap requires some parameters to be initialized and fails. This is what Cyrus SASL reports.

Diagnostic Steps

Cyrus software comes with various plugins. The cyrus-sasl-sql package contains the Cyrus SASL plugin which supports using a RDBMS for storing shared secrets. If MySQL is not being used, then remove the corresponding plugin as follows:

rpm -e cyrus-sasl-sql

Other option is to configure the sql module.

By removing cyrus-sasl-sql, the error 'sql_select option missing' is gone but still the error 'auxpropfunc error invalid parameter supplied' is seen.

From configuration file, ldap is not used with postfix. Package 'cyrus-sasl-ldap' is responsible for the remaining error. Try removing cyrus-sasl-ldap package.

rpm -e cyrus-sasl-ldap

I've been trying to get this working on a Fedora23 instance. Maybe the cyrus-sasl-sql-auth documentation page could be of use here.
