How to deploy Openstack Controller nodes on RHEV virtual machine ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have currently have a RHEV deployment running RHEL 7 Fat hypervisors on HP C7000 Chassis, with 20/40 VC cards on BL460 Gen blades.
  • We installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux Openstack Director (RHEL OSP Director) on a virtual machine within RHEV and noticed a strange behavior where the RHEV hypervisor (brctl showmacs bridge) would not learn the mac address for a namespaced ovs interface running on on the vm.
  • We installed RHEL 7.0 on another blade (test client ) in a different chassis and were able to ping the virtual machines global Ethernet interface. When trying to ping the ip address for the interface within the namespace we could see the arp requests entering the namespace, and a reply exiting the vm onto the vnet interface on the hypervisor. But the Bridge would not switch the arp reply packet, it would just drop it.
  • We then added static mac entries in the vm namespace and test client, ping packets would reach the namespace and packets originating from the name space would not cross the linux bridge on the hypervisor.
  • Is there a way to log why the bridge is dropping the packet?
  • The bridge is vlan tagged and is running on a bonded interface with active-backup (miimon=100 mode=1)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.5
  • RHEL 7 Hosts as hypervisors on HP C7000 Chassis with 20/40 VC cards on BL460 Gen blades
