RHEL: Tuning the listen backlog and other factors.

Issue

  • The listen backlog is overflowing which was triggered by a stress test that fired off 1000's of connection requests.
The errors from netstat_-s:
    1108589 times the listen queue of a socket overflowed <<------------
    1111296 SYNs to LISTEN sockets dropped  <<--------------------------

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1
    -kernel-3.10.0-229.7.2.el7
  • Ipv6
  • ipv4 - This solution is also related to ipv4
