About output size of field in httpd access log.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • As for httpd access_log, field of 'Cookie' is over 8190 byte although especially LimitRequestFieldSize in configuration file is not specified.
  • We understand that LimitRequestFieldSize is directive for maximum size of an HTTP request header field and that the default is 8190 bytes (if nothing is specified). So, we think it should not be outputted over 8190 byte. Is my understanding wrong?
  • Here is LogFormat definition.
LogFormat "%t %>s \"%r\" \"%{User-Agent}i\" \"%{Referer}i\" %{x-forwarded-for}i %b %h %v %u \"%{Cookie}i\" %D T[%T]"
  • Is there any directive to limit character number to output at a line?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
  • httpd-2.2.3-63.el5
