Debuginfo package conflict when installing both i686 and x86_64 architectures for expat and openssl

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

When migrating applications from 32-bit i686 to 64-bit x86_64 architecture, it may be useful to install both the i686 as well as the x86_64 architecture of debuginfo packages on the same host. When doing so, package conflicts exist which prevent this.

This is the case for expat and openssl, possibly for other packages that contain both libraries and binaries, originating from the same source package, where only a single debuginfo exists.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • expat-debuginfo and openssl-debuginfo packages for multiarch i686 and x86_64 architectures
