Can the Quartz service be removed for JBoss EAP 4.3.0 and 5.x?

Issue

  • We are seeing the following in our server.log when shutting down JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP): 
2013-02-22 08:37:01,804 INFO  [org.quartz.simpl.SimpleThreadPool] (JBoss Shutdown Hook) There are still 39 worker threads active. See javadoc runInThread(Runnable) for a possible explanation

  • What is Quartz and can it be removed?

  • If I remove the quartz jars/service will we still be supported?

  • We have an application that runs its own Quartz instance and need to disable the built-in outdated Quartz that runs in JBoss. What's the best way to do that?

  • JBoss EAP 4.3.0.GA_CP03
  • JBoss EAP 5.x
