Why RHEV guest shows more number of cpu in the dmidecode output irrespective of number of vCPU selected from the manager

Issue

  • The dmidecode output of RHEV virtual machine always shows 16. However the number of vCPU assigned from RHEV Manager is less than 16.
  • Why dmidecode shows more number of CPU than the allocated vCPU for the virtual machine
  • Application running in the RHEV guest machines are having licensing issue because the dmidecode shows 16 cpu however the application only support 2 cpu socket license.
  • How to reduce the number of cpu shown in the dmidecode output of RHEV guest machines.
