Specifying '@kde-software-development' in %packages of kickstart file does not install the specific package group, why ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Specifying the directive '@kde-software-development' in %packages of the kickstart file does not install the said package group. why ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 Client

Root Cause

  • There was a cleanup on the non-existing components in the comps file prior to the release of RHEL5.4. In RHEL5.3, even though the group 'kde-software-development' was present, there were no packages under the said section.

  • So on specifying the said group in the kickstart file, no particular packages are installed but also no error pops up and the installation goes on fine. In RHEL5.4 the clean-up has entirely moved the 'kde-software-development' group.
