Why am I unable to start cman on my Red Hat Cluster Suite nodes when using a private interface and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Nodes won't join the cluster.
  • When I boot my cluster nodes not all the nodes will join.
  • cman fails to start on my cluster nodes:

    # service cman start
    Starting cluster:
       Loading modules... done
       Mounting configfs... done
       Starting ccsd... done
       Starting cman... failed
cman not started: Can't find local node name hostname; in cluster.conf
    /usr/sbin/cman_tool: aisexec daemon didn't start

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Advanced Platform (Clustering)
    • Kernels prior to 2.6.18-164.el5 are affected by the bug that was resolved in the errata: RHSA-2009:1341.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability Add on)
