RHEL 7 High Availability node with fence_scsi_check.pl enabled in watchdog reboots during boot-up as soon as watchdog starts

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When I'm booting a node with fence_scsi_check.pl enabled, the node starts watchdog then immediately reboots itself with errors saying the script returned 1
Sep 22 16:14:24 rhel7-node3 watchdog[4462]: test binary /etc/watchdog.d/fence_scsi_check.pl returned 1
Sep 22 16:14:24 rhel7-node3 watchdog[4462]: repair binary /etc/watchdog.d/fence_scsi_check.pl returned 1
  • Node is stuck in a reboot loop of booting up and then rebooting itself as soon as watchdog gets started
  • fence_scsi_check.pl fails if the node has not been unfenced yet

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 with the High Availability Add On
  • watchdog enabled to start on boot with systemctl enable watchdog.service
  • /usr/share/cluster/fence_scsi_check.pl linked or copied to /etc/watchdog.d
  • One or more nodes configured with a stonith device in the CIB that uses agent=fence-scsi
