Permission Denied error when executing binaries with restrictive permissions on a Red Hat Storage Server volume

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When a file has the following file permissions: rwx--x--x (mode 0711) it should be executable for a regular (non-root) user. This is true for regular and NFS file systems.

Within a RHSS volume which has been mounted using the glusterfs-fuse option, it is not possible to run the executable which has above file permissions set. However, when the RHSS volume has been mounted on a client using NFS as mount option then the file can be executed as expected.

Environment

  • Red Hat Storage Server 2.0 (RHSS) with glusterfs-3.3.0-22.el6rhs
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 in the glusterfs clients.
