Why is sssd throwing error "dereference processing failed : Input/output error" while starting sssd service in Red Hat Enterprise linux 6.7 configured as IPA-client ?

Issue

  • On a system configured as IPA-client, after updating sssd packages to the sssd-1.12.4-47.el6.x86_64 version, every time SSSD is restarted, following messages are observed in /var/log/messages:
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[be[example.com]]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[nss]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[sudo]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[pam]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[autofs]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[ssh]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:34 example.com sssd[pac]: Starting up
Sep  7 19:43:35 example.com sssd[be[example.com]]: dereference processing failed : Input/output error
Sep  7 19:43:35 example.com sssd[be[example.com]]: dereference processing failed : Input/output error
