JBoss ON 3 shows "Unnamed domain" for Host Controllers running with "--backup" parameter from JBoss EAP 6.2.x

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.3.x
  • Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 6.2.x
    • Only when using Domain Mode and backup parameter to start the Host Controllers

Issue

  • JON 3.3.2 is monitoring some JBoss EAP 6.2.3 instances in domain mode. When using dynagroups to generate groups in JON, the domain name is displayed as "Unnamed domain" for the Host Controllers.

  • By starting a Host Controller in JBoss EAP 6.2.x using backup parameter, a copy of the domain.xml file from the Domain Controller is created as domain.cached-remote.xml. In EAP 6.2.x, the domain.cached-remote.xml file is missing the domain name set in domain.xml file. Then, JBoss ON is unable to identify the Domain Name for the Host Controllers and it gets as "Unnamed domain".

Resolution

This issue has been identified in JBoss EAP 6.2.x, but it is fixed in JBoss EAP 6.3+.

As a workaround, it is possible to set the "Domain Name" from JBoss ON for the Domain Controller going to Configuration tab, set the Domain Name and save it. It should be applied only for the Domain Controller, so it will be replicated for all Host Controllers. Anyway, this configuration will be lost if HC is restarted as it will create a new domain.cached-remote.xml file every time you restart the HC with --backup parameter.
