RHEL6: "TCP: Out of memory" system hang

Issue

  • investigate server hung
  • Can you please analyse the core and find that out?Increasing tcp_mem should be a temporary fix as the limit can again be exhausted unless we figure out what is causing it?
  • The logs have the following errors:
TCP: too many of orphaned sockets
TCP: too many of orphaned sockets
TCP: too many of orphaned sockets
Out of socket memory
TCP: too many of orphaned sockets

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
    • kernel 2.6.32-358.41.1.el6
  • TCP
