Does any process need to be restarted after changing /etc/resolv.conf?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Our system is configured to user both internal and external nameservers. We need to change the IPs for the external nameservers. From what I understand, all we need to do is update /etc/resolv.conf with the IPs for the new nameservers. Does any process need to be restarted after this change? How can I confirm that the change is in effect?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • dns
  • resolv.conf
