Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host does not use keyboard set during installtion

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Keyboard type different to default, set during installation, is not used afterwards via console
  • Although changing keyboard type during installation, English keyboard is still default
  • localectl list-keymaps returns Couldn't find any console keymaps.
  • localectl list-locales only returns a few locales:

    $ localectl list-locales
    en_US
    en_US.iso88591
    en_US.iso885915
    en_US.utf8
    $
    
  • When setting German as default LANG in /etc/locale.conf the following error is shown on console during login:

    Last login: Thu Aug  6 05:50:06 EDT 2015 from 10.32.64.4 on pts/0
    -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_CTYPE: cannot change locale (de_DE.UTF-8): No such file or directory
    -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_COLLATE: cannot change locale (de_DE.UTF-8): No such file or directory
    -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_MESSAGES: cannot change locale (de_DE.UTF-8): No such file or directory
    -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_NUMERIC: cannot change locale (de_DE.UTF-8): No such file or directory
    -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_TIME: cannot change locale (de_DE.UTF-8): No such file or directory
