Why does CIFS mount through "automount getting failed" message after upgrading to RHEL 6.7 ?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Why the automounter not translating variables such as $USER and $UID to match the user attempting the mount ?
  • This works as expected, under all subversions of kernel 2.6.32-504. After upgrading to RHEL 6.7 kernel 2.6.3-573.1.1, the mount breaks. After rebooting to the previous kernel the functionality is restored.
  • Why the latest autofs package autofs-5.0.5-113.el6.x86_64 translates the variables in RHEL 6.6 as expected but not in RHEL 6.7 kernel 2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64 ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 6.7
  • autofs 2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64
