When creating new content host from Satellite it shows message "DNS PTR record already ip:hostname exist"

Solution Unverified - Updated -

  • Red Hat Satellite 6

  • When creating new host host1.example.com in Satellite, it shows DNS PTR error after attempting to create the host with a foreman generated dchp address on our build network.

  • Remove all host1.example.com A and PTR records from /var/named/dynamic/db.{forward,reverse} files and try again.

Root Cause

  • The DNS server already has forward and reverse entries of host.
