Why network related commands takes more time to display its output ?

Issue

• When executing any command which shows network related details , it takes more time then usual to show its output.

~] $ time ifconfig |grep -i "encap.*Ethernet" | wc -l
7

real    0m11.519s
user    0m0.001s
sys     0m0.115s

• Same issue whether the command is issued locally or from remotely.
