Incorrect sizing of Hugepages for an Oracle workload may cause memory starvation conditions, possible hangs or panics.
Issue
- If the reservation of Hugepages for Oracle is undersized, meaning the reservation is NOT enough to hold the Oracle instance with all Databases running, Oracle will fail to load the database instance into Hugepages and will subsequently use normal memory for one or more of the active databases. This Hugepages may then remain unusued and unallocated reducing the physical memory available for the rest of the processes.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Oracle 11g
