Why KVM virtual machines with macvtap NIC does not allow communication to floating ips?

Issue

I am using KVM virtual machines as controller and network nodes for Openstack. All these virtual machines have macvtap nic added in bridge mode. Communication to floating ips fail. Why this happens and how can I work around?
