What's the relationship between lpfc_devloss_tmo and udev scsi timeout, how the path failure gets handled in RHEL 6?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Relationship between lpfc_devloss_tmo and udev scsi timeout at the time of path failure and how these 2 values interact to detect the failure?
  • We use EMC PowerPath software in our environment to manage our multipathing and we set the lpfc_devloss_tmo value to 10. We currently do not make any changes to the default Linux scsi timeout value of 30/60 per udev rules. How do these 2 settings interact and are there any recommendations from Red Hat for reducing the udev rule when changing the devloss timeout? Does one negatively impact the other?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6
  • Fibre channel
