Why application goes down when running rhc snapshot

Issue

When getting application backup using rhc snapshot it results in application downtime.
Is there a way to take application backup without downtime.
Whenever we create a snapshot of a gear the gear gets restarted. Is this normal behavior or is this something we can configure to not behaving like this?
What is the best solution to avoid service interruption during snapshot?
