Why VLAN configured on top on bonding interface in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 fails to come up at boot time ?

Issue

  • VLAN interface configured on top of bond fails to come up with below message:
Mar 28 13:44:51 HOSTNAME network: Bringing up interface bond0:  [  OK  ]
Mar 28 13:44:51 HOSTNAME NetworkManager[7331]: <warn> (bond0.11): No support for VLANs on interface bond0 of type Bond
Mar 28 13:44:51 HOSTNAME network: Bringing up interface bond0.11:  Error: Connection activation failed: Failed to determine connection's virtual interface name
Mar 28 13:44:51 HOSTNAME network: [FAILED]
  • After system boots if tried to bring up interface manually by command ifup bond0.11 , the VLAN interface comes up fine.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0
  • kernel-3.10.0-125.el7
  • VLAN configuration.
