Issue

  • Using yum to do an update to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 hangs during the cleanup of initial-setup-0.3.9.12-1.el7.ppc64.
  Cleanup : initial-setup-0.3.9.12-1.el7.ppc64 804/1253
  • A ps listing shows the following:
root 27360 13287 0 Mar19 pts/0 00:00:00 /bin/sh /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.RHYZAL 1
root 27424 27360 0 Mar19 pts/0 00:00:00 /usr/bin/systemctl try-restart initial-setup-text.service
  • Killing the stuck systemctl process will allow the cleanup to continue, but we want to know a resolution not to cause this hang.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 on PPC64
