Asynchronous method calls blocked; failed to acquire permit within 5 minutes using EJBs on JBoss EAP
Issue
- We have an EJB client that spawns muliple threads, each thread making a call to a stateless bean. Each bean called from a client thread, calls an asynchronous method on another bean in turn.

When the number of client threads is higher than the JBoss EJB pool size, many threads fail to finish, even if the methods called are trivial. We observe the following errors:
javax.ejb.EJBException: JBAS014516: Failed to acquire a permit within 5 MINUTES javax.ejb.EJBTransactionRolledbackException: Transaction rolled back
