How to pass environment variables in the Openshift Enterprise 'Add Cartridge' REST API call

I am trying to set a few environment variables while adding a custom cartridge via REST API call. I tried all combinations, but environment variables not reflecting. I didn't find any documentation including REST API guide to add environment variables via REST API call while adding cartridge.

When using the RHC command add-cartridge, it is working fine. I was able to see newly created environment variables.

rhc add-cartridge -a tomcat -n mynamespace -e BAR=abc -c mongodb-2.4
