Will the system panic by assigning the duplicate alias to the diffrent devices in modprobe.conf ?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Server had a panic reboot at the time of resetting a MSL 6000 tape library.
  • There is a dual entry for scsi_hostadapter2 in /etc/modprobe.conf file. This alias points to both the Qlogic fiber channel
and the cciss device (which is the smartarray controller on the DL380).
  • Please advise if this could be causing panic reboot? If the tape fiber channel card and the DL380 controller are looked at as
the same device by the server wouldn't that cause a reboot when the tape FC was reset?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
