What is the purpose of an aditional deployment-scanner configuration in EAP6 if JBDS is used

Why there is an additional deployment-scanner entry in the standalone.xml configuration?

<deployment-scanner name="jbosstoolsscanner1" path="D:\Programme\Jboss\jboss-eap-6.2\standalone\ha-deployments" deployment-timeout="5000"/>

If JBoss DeveloperStudio (JBDS) or the JBoss tools plugin is used to start an EAP server there is an additional entry which seems deleted if it is correct stopped, is that correct?
