Unable to complete a boot

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have a virtual machine running inside a vSphere 5.5 controlled esxi farm.
  • It is failing to boot correctly. I "turn on the power" and the normal boot begins (I Hit F2 to get rid of plymouth) The Filesystems come up clean, UDEV devices start to come up. It reaches eth0 and tests the IP. Immediately after that, the system says "Beginning Shutdown" and continues showing information one expects during shutdown, and then powers-off.
  • I have tried booting one of the two previous kernels also with the same results.
