Discrepancy between du anf df outputs on HP-UX NFS server

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • An NFS exported filesystem on a HP-UX server is reporting a discrepancy between du and df that is then being picked up the RHEL NFS client:
du and df in server (HPUX):
<server>:/audit/activo/sap# du -sk .
999456 .
<server>:/audit/activo/sap# bdf .
Filesystem kbytes used avail %used Mounted on
/dev/vgR12sap1/auditsap
                   22528000 12831480 9621040 57% /audit/activo/sap

du an df in client (Linux):

# cd /audit/activo/sap
# du -sk .
999616 .
# df .
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
<server>:/audit/activo/sap
                      22528000 12830720 9621504 58% /import/auditsap

<server>:/audit/activo/sap# df -i /audit/activo/sap
/audit/activo/sap (/dev/vgR12sap1/auditsap) : 2081404 total i-nodes
                                                    2080561 free i-nodes
                                                        843 used i-nodes
                                                          0 % i-nodes used
  • The discprepancy goes away when the NFS client is rebooted.

Environment
