'service clvmd stop' fails with "clvmd failed to exit" when stopping multiple cluster nodes at the same time in a RHEL 5 Resilient Storage cluster

Issue

  • When I am shutting down my cluster, stopping clvmd on one node fails
# service clvmd stop
Deactivating clustered VG(s):   0 logical volume(s) in volume group "clust" now active
  clvmd not running on node rhel5-node2.example.com
                                                           [  OK  ]
Signaling clvmd to exit                                    [  OK  ]
Waiting for clvmd to exit:                                 [FAILED]
clvmd failed to exit                                       [FAILED]
  • clvmd fails to exit if another node has just exited the cluster

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 with the Resilient Storage Add On
  • lvm2-cluster
    • locking_type = 3 in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf
    • clvmd running
