Gnome System Monitor "View" menu options not working in RHEL6

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Gnome

Issue

  • Options to select between My processes , Active Processes and All processes is disabled/Greyed out in Gnome System Monitor ( Application -> System Tools -> System Monitor ).
  • Unable to select All processes option from gnome-system-monitor View dropdown menu.

Resolution

  • Following is a workaround for the issue:

    Step 1) Go to Applications -> System Tools -> System Monitor
    Step 2) Select a process from the list of processes.
    Step 3) Now select View option and check the drop down list.

Root Cause

Upstream versions of Fedora relevent to RHEL6 have the same issue. It is a bug which hasn't been fixed yet in those versions.

Diagnostic Steps

  • In gnome, go to Application -> System Tools -> System Monitor and select view option. Check if the option to select between My processes, Active Processes and All processes is disabled/Greyed out.
