Running up2date to install or update a package fails with "Unknown package arch found"

Issue

  • When updating a package on a RHEL 4 32-bit system registered to a Satellite server running OS RHEL6 satellite version 5.6 we get the following error:

    There was a fatal error communicating with the server. The message was:

Error Message:
    Unknown package arch found
Error Class Code: 45
Error Class Info:
     Invalid architecture.

     The architecture of the package is not supported by
     Red Hat Satellite
Explanation:
     An error has occurred while processing your request. If this problem
     persists please enter a bug report at bugzilla.redhat.com.
     If you choose to submit the bug report, please be sure to include
     details of what you were trying to do when this error occurred and
     details on how to reproduce this problem.
