Issue

  • Not able to start httpd in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, fails with message "SSLProtocol: Illegal protocol 'TLSv1.1'

The following was added to /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf

SSLProtocol -All +TLSv1 +TLSv1.1 +TLSv1.2

Executing the command service httpd start fails with the following message in the console

Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 94 of /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf:
SSLProtocol: Illegal protocol 'TLSv1.1'

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 update 5
  • mod_ssl-2.2.15-31.el6_5.x86_64
  • openssl-1.0.1e-16.el6_5.15.x86_64
  • httpd-2.2.15-31.el6_5.x86_64
