Does Red Hat supports multiscreen configuration with GNOME3?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • How to configure dual monitors with separate screens (e.g., :0.0 and :0.1) in RHEL7, RHEL8 or RHEL9?
  • GNOME desktop fails to render on second X11 screen(:0.1) when configured for two independent X screens.
  • When using two monitors as two independent X11 screens ($DISPLAY = :0.0 and :0.1, respectively; sometimes called "Zaphod mode"), GNOME seems to ignore the second screen completely.
  • GNOME desktop appears correctly on screen :0.0, but screen :0.1 is just a blank black canvas. If you force a window to the second monitor, it will render without any window manager decorations.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
  • GNOME3
