Issue

  • Unable to start autofs service in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. modprobe fails with "autofs4.ko': No such file or directory"

  • service autofs start fails with the following message

[root@xxxx dir]# service autofs start
Loading autofs4:                                           [FAILED]
  • modprobe fails with the following message
[root@XXXXX dir]# modprobe autofs4
FATAL: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.18-348.3.1.el5/kernel/fs/autofs4/autofs4.ko': No such file or directory

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 update 8
  • kernel-2.6.18-348.3.1.el5.x86_64
