SCSI error: return code = 0x000f0000 (DID_TRANSPORT_FAILFAST) on any version of RHEL

Issue

  • /var/log/messages reports errors similar to the following in RHEL 5:

    Dec  7 16:08:38 hostname kernel: sd 1:0:1:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x000f0000
Dec  7 16:08:38 hostname kernel: Result: hostbyte=DID_TRANSPORT_FAILFAST 
                                         driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK
  • In RHEL 6 and RHEL 7 you may find only the second line in the logs.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Any Version
  • iSCSI attached disk (not always present)
