How to boot from other root disk?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5

Issue

  • We are moving disks from server B to A.

Server A has RHEL 5.0
Server B has RHEL 4.6

Disks from server B will be attached and imported on server A. We would like to boot server A using Server B-root_disk. Can you provide procedure/Steps to carry out this operation?

Resolution

This kind of migration is not recommended.

Root Cause

Server_B is physical. Server_A is VM cloud server. Clound VM may require some additional drivers and configuration changes as per environment/requirement.
