On RHEL6, how do I choose an optimum replication configuration for OpenLDAP replication with many slaves

Issue

Customer would like to run a large number of slaves (say 200 slaves per master):

  • Are there any limitations on the number of slaves supported for one master?
  • What would be the recommended replication mechanism for this environment? (syncrepl, refreshOnly, refreshAndPersist , delta-syncrepl, sync-repl proxy mode?)
  • Are the limitations on the number of supported slaves different for those replication methods?
