Cannot boot up on the multipath root device with "error parsing config file" in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • I installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 to a multipath device on SAN. The root device is on the multipath device.
  • The installation completed without any error messages, but it could not boot up with the following error after reboot.
error parsing config file
NO devices found
Unable to access resume device (/dev/mapper/mpath0p2)
mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'
setmproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory
setmproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory
setmproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory
swtichroot: mount failed: No such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!0-1f000
  • This is kickstart installation, and the customized multipath.conf is downloaded and deployed from our nfs server in %pre section.
