Installation fails when utilizing FBA EDEV disks

Issue

  • Installation fails when utilizing FBA EDEV disks:

    /dev/dasde is not an ECKD disk!
    dasdfmt: Unsupported disk type
    /dev/dasdc is not an ECKD disk!
    dasdfmt: Unsupported disk type
    /dev/dasdb is not an ECKD disk!
    dasdfmt: Unsupported disk type
    /dev/dasdd is not an ECKD disk!
    
  • Kickstart installation is failing when trying to mount the root file system from device dasdb1 on a IBM z196 Mainframe. The disk subsystem is a V7000 FBA storage. This storage is attached to z/VM 6.1 via an EDEV and then passed to the guest in question as a mini disk.

  • An error was encountered while formatting device /dev/dasddb2:

    details: invalid device specification
